May Picnic in JUNE !!! at the MN State Fairgrounds (at the MWGS pond between the Horticulture Bldg and Food Pavillion)That’s right the May picnic (usually held the week AFTER Mother’s Day) will now be in June. We can’t get our usual Rosedale picnic grounds as it is Covid closed and the State Fair is having a car show. So, we’ve moved the picnic to Sunday, June 6 at the State Fair MWGS pond garden site. This is considered a “working picnic” by the State Fair administration, so we will start the day off will a little freshening up of the pond. Bring some gloves, clippers or kneeling pads if you want to partake, but the bulk of the work will be done on Saturday, June 5th.From noon to 2pm, will be enjoying the food you brought, socializing and exchanging plants (water or otherwise), pond products, garden art or anything you want to donate that someone else can use. This will be in the form of a sale befitting MWGS. You bring something. Stick on a good price to sell. If someone wants it, they pay MWGS whatever price you put on it. If it doesn’t sell, you need to take it back home or donate it to the door prizes. If we have plants leftover from the Mother’s Day Sale, we will bring those too to sell. Due to logistical constraints, we will NOT be selling fish. If you are interested in donating or buying fish, contact Marty Barke at any time at (952)929-7359. Fish donations are actually preferred prior to our Mother’s Day Sale. In the case of inclement weather, we have access to indoor space inside the Horticulture Building, and also the indoor restrooms will also be available to us during our entire working/picnic time. This is our first official gathering as a group in well over a year, and we look forward to seeing you all. Outside, and safely. Here is how the afternoon will go:11:00 am to noon garden work (bring your gloves etc ) The bulk of the work will be done on Saturday, noon to 2pm picnic & sale (due to Covid restrictions, this will be a BYO picnic basket … food, beverages utensils etc This is a State Fair requirement: We can’t do pot-luck. Wear masks and bring your own chair to sit upon2pm to 2:30 pm short business meeting & questions/answers2:30 – ? ——— DOOR PRIZES !!!!!!!! YEA !!!We will have some door prizes that will help you with your garden budget (just a hint). If you can remember back a long time ago when we actually had face to face meetings, we also had other door prizes. Our members brought many miscellaneous things like plants, seeds, garden figures, garden books etc. We’d like to do that again. So. bring anything you have that might be a treasure for someone and share it on the door prize table. It will be GREAT to see everyone again even if we all look different with masks
