Iris, Purple Fan
Versicolor ‘Purple Fan’

A cross between Iris versicolor and most likely, Iris virginica discovered in the wild where both plants thrive. Is “Purple Fan” and “Purple Flame” one and the same? Hard to tell, but all resources point to “Purple Flame” being a versicolor mutation, while “Purple Fan” is most often listed as a hybrid versicolor cross, called x robusta. The plants look and behave remarkably similar, so maybe one day DNA testing will reveal the differences. Meanwhile, we will bring you both and let you decide.
