Fragrant yellow/white flowers bloom close to the ground in March before any leaves, appear, this is a great plant for damp shade. Native to riverbanks of China, Japan & Korea, it can form 3-5’clumps of huge basal leaves that are deer and rabbit resistant. Variegation can fade in summer heat or deep shade. Sink large containers into the ground if you want to contain this rhizomatous-spreading plant. Leaf stalks are cooked as a vegetable (fuki) in Japan.
