Blazing Star, ‘Floristan Violet
Liatris spicata ‘Floristan Violet|
Fluffy wands of bright violet-purple flowers bloom from top to bottom over 4 weeks or more. Finely textured grass-like dark green foliage along the strong stem provides nice contrast and summer interest, turning a rich bronze in the fall. Summer blooming at the same time as rudbeckia and echinacea. Tolerates poor soils, but may get winter root rot in heavy clay. Cultivar of the native Marsh Blazing Star but slightly more compact than the native.
