How to Build a Pond Water Feature

Presented by Tim Rick – Owner and lead designing of DIWhy

Tim will walk you through a step-by-step discussion on how to construct an aesthetically beautiful water feature that is functional and fun.  From filtration to rock selection, he’ll cover it all.  Things to avoid and tricks of the trade will be discussed.

Tim Rick is the owner/operator of DIWhy, LLC, a landscape company that focuses on water features.  DIWhy was established in 2013 with the mission of being a full-service water feature company in the Twin Cities and Twin Port.  Tim graduated from the University of Wisconsin Superior in 1999 with a Bachelor’s in mass communication and a minor in Business.  He went on to earn an associate degree in Graphic Design from the Minnesota Institute of Arts in 2001.  After 15 years as a graphic designer, a career change presented itself and what was once a hobby, water gardening, became a successful business.  DIWhy has built over 80 water features in the last 10 years.  They’ve been honored to have their water feature builds as part of many pond and garden tours, to include the North Oaks Garden Tour, International Gardening Association Private and Public Garden Tour, and many MWGS Pond Tours.  The Star Tribune 2023 Beautiful Gardens Contest Winner featured one of their pond-less water features.  Tim enjoys exploring the shores of Lake Superior, remote camping in the Badlands of South Dakota, meat markets, sports, and cooking.
