Taro Giant Upright
Alocasia macrorrhiza
Also known as Upright Elephant Ear, this plant loves moist to wet soil, and can tolerate periods of flooding, but don’t submerge the crown for long periods of time. Leaves can become scorched in full all-day sun, but the large elephant ear shaped leaves can droop if grown in dense shade. A forest understory plant in its native SE Asia, it has been cultivated throughout human history as an edible vegetable. Can be wintered indoors 60-65F, reduce watering and return outdoors after last frost date.
