Lotus nucifera species
Your Content Goes Here
One of two extant species of the family Nelumbonaceae, (the other one being the MN Native Lotus Nelumbo lutea) this is the mother from which all the beautiful species of lotus are derived. Native to southern Asia, it is often referred to as the Sacred Lotus. This one can be enormous with leaves sometimes reaching 2 feet across and lovely pink flowers up to 8 inches across. As with all non-native aquatics, take care not to release any parts, including seeds which can lay dormant for 100 years and still germinate!
