Three Square Rush
Schoenoplectus pungens

Very interesting rush because a cross-section of each blade is a perfect triangle. Native to most of the US, including Minnesota, in tidal marshes, floodplains, and lake shores. Attracts waterfowl and other wildlife, and is a great shoreline stabilizer. Spikelet flowers appear to grow along the side of blades. In the pond, best to keep in a container to get a more dense clump, due to its natural tendency to spread. Needs no attention to keep growing in summer or stay alive in winter. Can be planted in natural waterways.
