Taro, Giant Variegated
Alocassia macrorrhiza variegata
The largest of the Taro, this will grow in its native environment to over 10’ tall, but here in Minnesota, expect a mature plant to reach 5-6 feet. Regardless, the leaves are huge, and held upright to horizontal, but the show is in the genetic abnormality of the variegation which makes each leaf unique like it was splashed with white paint. It will grow from full sun to deep shade but prefers part sun as the variegation will fade a bit in deep shade. Your eyes will be drawn to this plant from afar.
Size: 5 to 6 feet
Zone: 9-11
Light: Sun to shade
