This is a lovely vining plant with tricolor variegation on sturdy heart-shaped leaves. More sun reveals more pink variegation. Small white flowers are rather insignificant compared to the foliage. Spreads through underground rhizomes, so for this reason, keep it in the pond, in a pot, or plant in a contained terrestrial area. While it is zone 3 hardy, it doesn’t overwinter well in the pond, as it is too wet. Better to bring out of the pond and mulch heavily after a hard freeze.
