Horsetail Rush
Equisetum hyemale

Sometimes called “scouring rush” because it was used to make brooms, this native plant is a favorite of children because the rigid, rough, hollow, vertically-ridged, jointed-and-segmented, bamboo-like, dark green stems, can be popped apart with no harm to the plant. A classically prehistoric vibe, it tolerates a huge range of soil types and sun conditions. This is a tough plant that will thrive anywhere and has a long history of uses throughout humanity. Grows 2-4 feet tall. Keep in a container to keep it tightly clumped.
