“Waterlilies and more ………. flora for the water garden

Presented by Soni Forsman

It’s Spring!  Thinking of adding a new plant or two to your water garden?  Soni’s presentation is an aquatic plant sampler showcasing some of the many choices available in the trade.  She will focus on waterlilies, plants for the edges of the water garden, ones that just bob around on the water’s surface and the elegant lotus.  The MWGS annual plant sale, first weekend in May, is your opportunity to do some in-person shopping.  See the Waterlog for sale details plus pictures and descriptions of some of the offerings.  “Shop ’til you drop” at the Society’s annual fundraiser held on the State Fair grounds.

It took just one waterlily flourishing in a container for Soni to fall in love with waterlilies and water gardening.  That was 43 years ago.  In the mid-1990s, Soni began speaking and writing about water gardening.  In 2005, she consulted at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, St. Paul, returning the Victoria waterlily to Como Park, after an absence of 100 years.  She has appeared on local TV sharing how-to’s and the joy of water gardening.  The Forsman’s water gardens have been featured in the Minneapolis Star/Tribune and the Mpls/St. Paul and Midwest Living Magazines.  Soni is a member of the International Waterlily and Water Gardening Society, the Minnesota Hosta Society and the Eagan Garden Club.
